ROWAYTON, Conn., Sept. 5 —Ken McCoy filed his second consecutive retirement letter from paddle with the club's records subcommittee this week, with associates saying that this time the move is final because his social media influencer career is finally taking off.

The letter was received at 11:14 a.m. Monday and logged as item fourteen in a filing the subcommittee has kept since 2019, according to Denis Kelly, the subcommittee's assistant recording secretary. "We stamped it received and filed it under 'K,' same as last year's," Kelly said, adding that the folder had not been cleaned out between filings.

McCoy did not respond to a telephone call seeking comment on the letter. He addressed the retirement Monday evening in a video posted to Brasher Live, the media venture he founded after stepping down as captain of Rowayton B, which won the Fairfield County Platform Tennis League's Division 1 title in the 2024-25 season under his leadership.

"I built the best team this club has seen in a generation, and I did it by making the hard calls nobody else wanted to make," McCoy said in the video, adding that leaving the sport now would let him focus on "content, community, and my own brand equity."

McCoy's rating closed the offseason at 29, up two points from 27 a year ago, though the league's own published movement figure for him shows a one-point change, a discrepancy McCoy raised unprompted in the video as evidence the algorithm had "never understood" what he brought to a lineup card.

"He's retired every September since I've known him," said Bradley C. Weaver, who inherited the Rowayton B captaincy from McCoy and now shares it with Skip Dunphy. "I've stopped circling the date."

Andrew Simone, who captains Rowayton E and F and has himself announced his resignation from various club roles on at least four occasions without ever completing one, said he understood the instinct. "I resign twice a season myself," Simone said. "The difference is I still show up to the lineup meeting."

A spokesman for Brasher Live declined to elaborate on the retirement beyond the video, saying additional commentary was being held for a forthcoming livestream. The account's following grew 41 percent in the six weeks since the Fairfield Open, according to figures McCoy's team supplied but the paper could not independently verify.

The subcommittee's folder, Kelly said, still contains last year's letter, unretracted and unamended except for the date.
